Aftercare advice for waxing at home (or a salon!)

waxing aftercare tipsBeing hair-free has become somewhat of an obsession. Hair removal methods are all the rage, from laser to waxing. The chances are you are considering waxing your body, and right from the comfort of your own home. Regardless if you have your body waxed at home or elsewhere, below are some aftercare tips you will want to keep in mind.

1. Avoid Direct Contact With Heat

After you have gotten a body wax done, you will want to avoid direct contact with heat, at least for the next 24 hours. This doesn’t mean to avoid direct contact with the sun, as it includes other things such as extremely hot baths or showers, Jacuzzi’s and things of that nature. The reason why avoiding heat is a must is because when you get waxed, it will leave your pores open. If you come in contact with extreme heat, then your skin may become aggravated.

2. Don’t Do Any Fake Tanning

You might be tempted to do some fake tanning after you have received a body wax, but this is not a good idea. You are best to wait at least 24 hours before you decide to fake tan. If you do go fake tanning after you have gotten waxed, you’ll probably end up with some skin reactions, so it is best to avoid doing it.

Also, fake tanning means both the spray on tan, as well as tanning in a sunbed. Both of these should be avoided, especially the tanning bed, as they subject you to extreme heat and you could end up in a lot of pain if you go tanning right after a body wax. Do yourself a favor and avoid any kind of tanning, for now.

3. Wear Loose Clothing

Avoid wearing tight pieces of clothes that cling to your skin. Ideally, you should wait between 24-48 hours after you have gotten waxed. Your best bet is to just wait a full 48 hours before wearing tight clothes because the last thing you want is for your skin to become irritated.

Asides from wearing loose clothing, try to avoid other types of friction. For example, it may be a good idea to avoid exercising for a good couple of days or engage in any types of sports. Friction from such activity may irritate your skin and can leave it looking red.

4. Stay Away From The Swimming Pool

Do you own a pool or will be going somewhere that has a pool? If so, then do not go in it after you have gotten waxed if the pool is chlorinated because your skin will not feel nice afterwards. As for how long you should avoid going into chlorinated pools for, try to not go in one for at least a few days.

As for swimming in the ocean, you may still want to avoid doing that for a good 24 hours, as it is always good to play it safe. The last thing you want to do is to not only aggravate your skin but end up potentially damaging it as a result of swimming too soon after getting waxed.

5. Moisturize

Sometimes people feel a little discomfort after they are waxed, and if you feel uncomfortable due to a slight burning sensation, then you might want to moisturize the areas that were waxed. However, don’t just choose any old moisturizing cream because you do not want to apply lotions that contain harsh chemicals. Instead, look for a post-wax cream or lotion that is gentle and specially formulated to deal with after wax ouchies.

If you are going to get waxed, then make sure you keep the above aftercare advice in mind. The above tips and advice may seem like common sense information, but there are many people who need a refresher. Those tips may be basic info, but they can surely help you out.
